A hydrosol (hydrolat, floral water) is the water-based part created during the steam distillation of plants for essential oils. It is saturated with water-soluble plant compounds, making it a gentle yet active product.
What is it good for? It is best known as a natural and effective toner. It balances the skin’s pH, deeply hydrates, and soothes. Depending on the plant, it helps with various concerns: lavender for sensitive skin, rose for dry and mature skin, and immortelle (helichrysum) for regeneration.
Its applications are broad: it is used as a face and body mist, added to baths and hair masks, or used for compresses and inhalations. Some floral waters (e.g., orange blossom) are even edible and used in cooking.
It is a safe and simple alternative to commercial products, ideal for daily natural skincare.
