Reishi – The Mushroom of Immortality

Reishi

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), also known as Lingzhi, has been revered in traditional Chinese medicine for over 4,000 years. Its name translates to “herb of spiritual potency,” and it has traditionally been used to promote longevity and overall well-being, often in connection with meditation and relaxation rituals

Benefits:

Immune Support: Contains polysaccharides (beta-glucans) that help modulate the immune system .
Heart Health: Triterpenes called ganoderic acids may help lower blood pressure and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, while also reducing blood platelet stickiness—an important factor in lowering the risk of coronary artery disease .
Stress and Sleep: Traditionally used to support relaxation and reduce stress and fatigue .
Liver Protection: Research suggests hepatoprotective (liver-protecting) effects .

How to Consume:

Reishi has a woody texture and bitter taste, so it’s not typically eaten whole. It’s most commonly found as:

Powder: Can be mixed into coffee, tea, or smoothies.
Capsules/Tinctures: A convenient, flavorless option. Recommended dosage is 1.5–9 grams per day of the crude dried mushroom, or 1–1.5 grams in powdered form .
Tea: Made from dried, sliced reishi, simmered for 1–2 hours.

Note: Reishi may interact with blood pressure medications and blood thinners. Consult your healthcare provider before use .
