From Garden to Jar: The Journey of an Ingredient

Distilling lavanda

Let’s follow Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) on its ethical journey. It starts in sustainable fields, often in Provence, France, where it’s grown without synthetic pesticides. At peak bloom, it’s hand-harvested. For its essential oil, the flowers are steam-distilled: steam passes through the plant material, carrying its volatile oils, which then condense back into liquid—separating into Lavender Essential Oil and Lavender Hydrosol (the fragrant water).

The oil might go into a calming serum, while the hydrosol becomes the base of a toner. The leftover plant matter is composted. This traceability—knowing the farm, the distillation method, and the commitment to fair trade—is what separates true natural brands from those simply using a marketing term.
